To celebrate the latest launch in our ongoing collaboration with Automobili Lamborghini, The 10,000 spoke with factory drivers Giacomo Altoè and Albert Costa. First founded in 2013 within the Research & Development department, Squadra Corse provides an integrated approach to Lamborghini driving experiences; from driving course programs with road vehicles to motorsport competitions, through the Lamborghini Super Trofeo and championships of the GT class. Read on to learn more about both Giacomo Altoè and Albert Costa, including how they first got involved in motorsports, their favorite race tracks and their pre-race routines.
Tell us about your first Lamborghini Squadra Corse race, and how you initially got involved in motorsports.
Giacomo Altoè: I got involved in motorsport because my family owns a circuit in Italy, the Adria International Speedway, so I started to drive when I was really young. My first race with Lamborghini was in 2018 in the Super Trofeo Middle East. The team confirmed my participation just a few days before the race so I jumped in a plane and after the landing I just had the time for a few laps. But I got the pole position in the ProAm class.
Albert Costa: I will never forget my first race with Lamborghini. It was in France at Le Castellet circuit -- and racing and also winning my debut race with Giacomo has been really really special. When I was very young I started with motorbikes then karting when I was 9 years old. I won my first kart race and I immediately fell in love with the four wheels.
To be part of Squadra Corse is a dream come true. Every driver wants to become a pro and also a Factory Driver for an important brand and I did it! Lamborghini Squadra Corse opened its doors and now I’m part of the family. I'm really proud to be part of it and I hope to stay here for many many years. Furthermore I also speak Italian so I feel even closer to my colleagues working in the headquarters.
