In honor of Pride 2020, Master & Dynamic is thrilled to be participating in Rockefeller Center’s “Love Above All” online auction, to be held in place of Rainbow Room’s annual black-tie Pride event. Virtually hosted by Rainbow Room from June 18th – 28th, 100% of proceeds from the auction will benefit the Ali Forney Center, supporting critical efforts to combat homelessness among LGBTQ+ youth, empowering them to live independently. Master & Dynamic partnered with artist Nir Hod to create a one-of-a-kind concrete wireless speaker to be auctioned during the event.
Executed in 2020, this work was made exclusively by Nir Hod for the “Love Above All” auction. The black concrete Master & Dynamic MA770 Wireless Speaker’s grille is covered with smoldering flames superimposed on delicate flowers, alluding to the paradoxical coexistence of beauty and destruction, and characteristic of Hod’s work which is a dark glamour that is both alluring and menacing. The design is digitally silkscreened and based on Hod’s painting, I Want Always to be Remembered in Your Heart exhibited at the Paul Kasmin Gallery in 2015.
“The flower with the flame is a symbol of something powerful turning into something weak, but also when something fragile becomes powerful! For me this is a reminder, the light coming from the dark to create a correction.” – Nir Hod.
